IN the Gwent Central Premier Division, Gilwern and District clipped the wings of a high-flying Trevethin outfit 4-2.
Adam Carrington put Gilwern ahead in the 25th minute, and five minutes before half-time Matthew Williams extended Gilwern's lead.
Trevethin pulled a goal back five minutes into the second-half to make it 1-2, but ten minutes later Gilwen regained their lead when Kieran Shelvin struck gold.
Andrew McCarthy scored in the 70th minute to put the game beyond Trevethin, who nevertheless scored a consolation goal in the last five minutes.
Shaun Williams was man of the match for Gilwern who move up to second position.

After going 1-0 down early doors, Usk levelled the match at 1-1 through Phil Sampson.
Ponty pulled one back in the 83rd minute of the match and Usk had a 'golden opportunity' to go level from the penalty spot in the dying stages, but Joe Henry's effort was brilliantly saved by the Ponty keeper.

Ironically it was Llanarth who led Ponty 0-1 at half-time through a shot by Gavin Phillips. Yet in the second-half it was a different story as the floodgates opened and Llanarth went under.
