The Friends of Bailey Park recently had a two hour ’blitz’ in the sensory garden at the Abergavenny park.

Shirley Barnfield and Ruth Powell, chairman and secretary of the group had made an appeal for help to clear the area after it became overgrown and littered with broken glass.

On the evening there was a great turnout when twenty four people turned up and got stuck in to clearing the area.

The group was joined by newly elected Labour town councillor for Priory Ward, Tudor Thomas who attacked the overgrowth with a strimmer and took away most of the waste.

Councillor Thomas said, "I am really impressed with the work that the Friends of Bailey Park do and want to help them not only by representing their interests on the town council but also in a more practical way. I am prepared to get my hands dirty!"

He had already met up with Shirley and Ruth a few weeks ago to walk the park and to see for himself what the main problems were.

Friends of Bailey Park meet every Thursday evening between 6-8 pm through the summer months, weeding and picking up litter and welcome any help to maintain this valuable resource for everyone in Abergavenny and visitors to the town to enjoy.
