LOCAL woman Maggie Elliott will be remembered with a charity race night in Abergavenny later this month.

The King of Prussia in Penpergwm is hosting a charity race night, dubbed ‘Nags for Mags’, on bank holiday weekend in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK.

The fun starts at 3pm on Sunday August 30 and goes on until late.

The event is part of the fundraising efforts of a group who will be cycling from London to Paris in September in memory of Abergavenny local, Maggie Elliott (nee Holland).

In April last year Maggie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She valiantly endured many gruelling rounds of chemotherapy, but at the time of her diagnosis it had already reached stage four and had spread to her liver.

In February she eventually lost the battle.

Maggie was only 43 years old and she left behind two little boys aged ten and seven.

Pancreatic cancer is often called the ‘silent cancer’ because the symptoms are so vague, but it is the fifth most common cause of UK cancer deaths. Research into its cause is also the most underfunded.

Tickets for the ‘Nags for Mags’ fundraiser cost £10 (£5 for under 12s, under sixes go free) and include entry to all races, music and a burger.

They are available from H Shackleton in Nevill Street, Abergavenny and the King of Prussia and can also be bought online at nagsformags.eventbrite.co.uk.
