ABERGAVENNY Round Table raised in excess of £2,000 at another fundraising firework display.

Months of planning, meetings, phone calls and e-mails paid off with even the weather behaving itself for what was one of the most successful and well received firework displays the Round Table has organised.

Round Table chairman Ian Bowden said, "Every year we start the planning in January and hope that the weather will be with us and that the people will turn up.

"We can be confident that as long as we have the weather, the crowds will come. And come they did with attendance well up on last year's damp and breezy evening.

"Organising the firework display has two main aims," he explained, " Firstly to give a safe environment for families to see a spectacular display and if we save one accident, its worth all the effort and secondly, this is our main fundraiser, by getting the people through the gates, buying the hot dogs and hot chocolates, the light sticks and popcorn we are now able to help make donations to many people and groups in and around Abergavenny.

"It was fantastic to see so many people, especially after last year's Glastonburyesque mud-fest. However we could not do this without the support of so many others and our thanks go out to all of them and of course the public who have helped us raise in excess of £2000."
