Monmouthshire County Chair, Kate Beavan, will welcome members of the public to her farm this weekend as part of Open Farm Sunday.
Kate, and husband Jim, who were the original stars of the BBC production, Lambing Live, will open their farm near Abergavenny to teach people about the story behind our food and to show how farming affects everyday lives. There will be a variety of events taking place including shearing demonstrations, outdoor classroom activities for children and spinning and weaving.
Kate Beavan, NFU Cymru Monmouthshire County Chair said: “Great Tre-rhew farm is a traditional, 300 acre mixed family farm with sheep, cattle and arable enterprises, including cider making. Farmers do so much to care for and to enhance our beautiful countryside, alongside producing high quality food, and Open Farm Sunday is a great opportunity for us to show the farm to fork story to those who might not be aware of what happens on a traditional farm.
“We’ve got some great activities plan whether you want to go on a wildlife walk, meet the animals, watch sheep being shorn, or have a go at river dipping (make sure you bring your wellies), there will be something for everyone. Bring a picnic along with you to eat in our orchards or there will be refreshments available with all proceeds going to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI). We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday.”
The event will take place at Great Tre-rhew Farm, Llanvetherine, Abergavenny, NP7 8RA on Sunday, June 9 between 1pm and 4pm.
