Why wait until September for your food festival fix when you can take the kids along this summer holidays? The Blaina Food Festival is less than 20 minutes away from Abergavenny and it is completely free!

It is no secret Abergavenny is considered one of the foodie hubs of the UK, but those waiting for a slice of something delicious usually have to wait until September before the town is taken over by the smells of food from near and far. If you can’t wait for your foodie fix to hit Abergavenny in a couple of months’ time, head just down the road for a flavour of just some of the local produce and entertainment expected to be on offer less than two months from now.

It follows the success of the recent Ebbw Vale Food Festival and last year’s Brynmawr Festival, which were both staged by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council as a way of bringing more footfall and activity to town centres in the area.

“Thank you to everyone who joined us at Ebbw Vale Food Festival, it was an absolute blast,” a council spokesperson said following the event.

“[There was] amazing entertainment, a massive thank you to all our performers and thanks to all the food and drink vendors.”

Now, it is Blaina’s turn, and the event will take place in the stunning grounds of St Peter’s Church between 11am and 5pm on Saturday August 15. There will be street food stalls, free children’s activities and live music from community radio station, BGfm.

The sun looks set to be shining this time around too, so why not head down and enjoy a pint in the sun with some good food?

Among the children’s entertainment will be the internet sensations, Dinomania. The last dinos left on earth will be roaming the streets of Blaina throughout the day. Expect to see the magnificent creatures on your travels around the town - they’re supposed to be friendly, but be careful!

“The Town Centre Team is delighted to be bringing this exciting event to the heart of Blaina,” a spokesperson on behalf of the organisers said.

“Expect plenty of FREE entertainment, delicious food and drink, and lots of activities to keep the whole family entertained.”

There will also be a big focus on on healthy eating and sustainable food choices, with free recipes to try at home and an affordable, resilient and sustainable food supply for the local area.

Grown ups - don’t worry! There will be something on offer for you to enjoy as well.

Those of a certain age might be able to have a rummage in the back of the wardrobe for their outfits from the ‘70s and 80’s. They should be sure to bring their ‘Baggy Trousers’ along too. From 2pm, Two Tone Pete will take to the stage with his signature Ska Party. It’ll be complete madness! There’s no need to book, just turn up on the day.
