The community in Raglan are celebrating the best-ever fundraising event at a local church, which will help fund their vital work in the local area.

On August 21, the village welcomed the local sea shanty band, ‘The Bootleggers’ to St Cadoc’s Church for an evening of soul singing, foot tapping and humour. The church was packed with an audience of around 100, all of whom left with a smile on their face with the question ‘when will they be back?’

Ticket sales, Raffle and Refreshment monies all added together raised £1,500 towards the church event. It is the most ever raised in one event at the church, and the organisers would like to pass on a huge ‘Thank You’ to The Bootleggers who helped make this happen!

“Thank you to all those who helped on the night, those who donated raffle prizes and to Exton’s for helping by selling the event tickets for us, most appreciated,” Beverley Jones said.

“Our next St Cadoc’s Church fund raising event will be another Table Top sale in the autumn followed by the Christmas Coffee Morning, keep your eyes out for dates TBA.”

Those who missed ‘The Bootleggers’ at the church, or wanting to see them again, can catch them at Gwehelog Village Hall, Usk Road on Friday September 25. Doors open at 7pm and tickets will cost £7 on the door. There will also be a raffle and a bar serving refreshments will be available. This time they will be raising funds at for Gwehelog Village Hall who so kindly support them by offering a place to practice when the rains come and when Farmer Pete’s open roofed avenue no longer keeps them warm or dry.
