The Powys Careers Festival is going to be held again in 2018 after a successful first event which saw some 2,500 students from across Powys converge on the Royal Welsh Showground.
The organisers, the multi-agency Positive Pathways Powys Group, has now confirmed that the second Powys Careers Festival will be taking place at Llanelwedd on Wednesday March 7, 2018. The events are organised to show young people in education in Powys the opportunities available to them after they leave school or further education.
Jackie Parker is chair of the group – and headteacher of Crickhowell High School - and she commented, “We were delighted with how the first event went and we are now in the midst of looking at how we can make it even better next year. What I can say though is that it will be bigger and better.
“We had a lot of feedback from students who felt that it should be opened up to Year 9 pupils. I discussed this with my fellow Headteachers in other Powys High Schools and I can confirm that in 2018, the event will be open to students in Years 9, 10 and 12 as well as those studying in the NPTC Group of Colleges and special schools within Powys.”
Ms Parker added, “If there are any employers out there who wish to be involved next year - that weren’t this year - please contact my colleague Jayne Bevan at Powys County Council on [email protected] or 01597 826695.”
The event will again be free to students and exhibitors in 2018 although the Group will be announcing details of sponsorship opportunities in the near future.
The Positive Pathways Powys Group is a partnership of Powys County Council, High Schools in the county, Careers Wales, Cambrian Training, the NPTC Group of Colleges and the Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations.
