Friends and family spent a very hot day helping with improvements to the outdoor environment at Cantref Primary School.
The school is looking forward to welcoming all of the children back this month, but in these uncertain times, they wanted to make sure that they could utilise the school grounds to its full potential.
In order to ensure that every possible safety precaution is taken, the school wanted to maximise outdoor learning.
This meant that a little work was needed, so Mrs Alison Francis (Foundation Phase Lead) ‘persuaded’ staff that a working party was the way forward!
It was organised for the hottest weekend of the year and it was suggested that partners might help too!
“I was blown away by the support from staff and their families and we certainly wouldn’t have achieved what we did without their support.
‘‘Special thanks must go to those who sponsored the work either financially or through provision of materials and services” she said
The school would like to thank Mr Chris Morgan of D&C Groundtec for bringing his digger which certainly saved a lot of backache; Mr Alex Kennedy of Diverse Civils for providing the majority of materials; Mr John Child from the Kings Arms, Abergavenny for providing a very generous lunch (pictured below) for all the workers, Mr Huw Griffiths of Green Standard Garden Services, Muckaway and also Paul Jarrold Tyres of Monmouth.
Without all of these people donating their time, skills and materials the project would have been impossible.
Headteacher, Mr Richard Brunsdon said: “The support of our local community and the dedication of the staff has been amazing. I can’t believe what they achieved in one day – there were people just getting on with jobs everywhere. The school would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported this project.”
