Drivers using their mobile phones or not wearing seat belts were targeted in a day-long police ‘Options Event’ staged in Usk and Abergavenny on Thursday.
The event saw Abergavenny and Monmouth Neighbourhood Policing Team working with South Wales Fire and Rescue to educate motorists about road safety issues.
Inspector Huw Jones said, “We had officers positioned outside at Usk fire station in the morning and Abergavenny fire station in the afternoon.
“We offered the drivers we pulled over the option of either a fixed penalty ticket or viewing a short, hard-hitting road safety video, screened inside the fire stations, which showed the possible repercussions of their actions.”
The fixed penalty for driving without wearing a seatbelt is £60, for using a mobile phone while driving - £100 plus three points on your licence.
All but one of the six drivers stopped in Usk opted to watch the road safety video.
