A DISPERSAL order has been confirmed for use in Abergavenny in a bid to clamp down on anti-social behaviour and car cruisers.
The order, which means that anyone who refuses to leave an area when ordered to do so can be arrested, is due to be brought to 16 parts of the town on September 25.
The order also means that anyone who returns to the areas within 24 hours of being asked to leave, can be arrested under the Antisocial Behaviour Act 2003. The only exclusions to the order will be prearranged public events.
Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer PC Sophie Whiting of Abergavenny Neighbourhood Policing Team said the order is being placed due to concerns of the public especially those regarding anti-social driving in the area.
She said, "The introduction of this dispersal order will give us further powers to move on anti-social drivers and youths hanging around the area and causing trouble."
One resident of Park Avenue, who did not want to be named, said: "There have been a lot of problems lately regarding young boy racers who meet at the Fairfield car park.
"It makes a lot of noise and is dangerous and so hopefully a dispersal order will help."
The areas included are, Fairfield car park, Bailey Park, Park Avenue, Park Road, Victoria Court, Hereford Road, Cattle Market, Priory Lane, Market Street, Monk Street, Cross Street, Bus Station, Holywell Road, High Street, Tiverton Place and Lion Street.
