CONSTRUCTION of the Brynmawr Over-bridge is set to lead to potentially disruptive closures of the A465 Heads of the Valleys road in December.

The closures are described by the Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, Ken Skates AM as ‘A significant phase of the project which will present challenges to the project team’.

Full road closures will be required for statutory utility diversion and to allow access to cranes for lifting elements to form the gateway arch. Rock breaking will also be carried out to allow the construction of the retaining walls.

Commenting on the closures, Nick Ramsay, AM for Monmouth stated, ‘I have received numerous complaints from local residents about the disruption caused by the construction work and fully appreciate that these additional road closures will undoubtedly cause some inconvenience to people living and working in the area.

‘Mr Skates has assured me that the public will be informed of each of the closures in advance through message signs along the trunk road, and advises people to plan their travel arrangements ahead.

Closures will be posted on Twitter and Facebook with a minimum of two weeks’ notice and reminders posted once details of the works are confirmed. A final reminder will be posted on the day of the closure.
