Mardy Tigers U16 - 4

Crickhowell Panthers U16 - 0

A SPECIAL day was always going to need a special performance by either team hoping to win last Sunday's Tesco Cup Final held at ENTO Aberaman.

And as it transpired it was the Mardy Tigers who had that extra 'special' something to take the game to local rivals Crickhowell Panthers and run out victors.

Led by inspirational captain Jade Edwards the Tigers missed several chances before a mistake from the keeper let in striker Amy Thrupp after 15 minutes to give her side a deserved lead. The Mardy girls defended as a team with Paige Hillier in great form at the back.

A second goal followed after some good work in midfield by Carys Lloyd whose pinpoint ball set Thrupp on her way and the coolest of finishes gave the Tigers a 2- 0 lead at the interval.

The Abergavenny youngsters came out in the second half on a mission against a side currently unbeaten in the league.

A string of Fine saves from the Panthers keeper kept them in the game until another fantastic through ball set Thrupp away again on the hour to complete her cup final hat trick and assure a Tigers victory.

The Tigers turned on the style now and player of the match Kate Jeremiah who had delivered a stunning display of wing play all afternoon was to have the last say after she broke through on the left to slot the Tigers fourth goal past the keeper.

Coach Wayne Jeremiah said, "It was a pleasure to see all the hard work put in by everyone at the club come to fruition on this special day, and for the girls to not only win the cup but to do it in style."
