A MIDDLE-AGED couple have been arrested in connection with two burglaries in Abergavenny over a 24-hour period.

A woman aged 45 and a 38-year-old man, both living locally, were detained by police after break-ins were reported in the Plas Derwen area of the town.

Officers are still appealing for information after the raids on properties in Plas Derwen Way and Plas Derwen View.

First hit was a property in Plas Derwen View where intruders forced entry and helped themselves to jewellery.

Police say the offenders struck between 9am and 9pm on March 23.

The following day, between 5.30pm and 11.45pm, a similarly violent method of entry was used to get into a property in nearby Plas Derwen Way.

Again, a quantity of jewellery was stolen.

Anyone with information about the break-ins should ring Gwent Police on 101 and quote log 502 of March 23 for the Plas Derwen View incident and log 468 of March 24 for the Plas Derwen Way burglary.

A police spokesman said the man and women arrested on suspicion of burglary had been quizzed and later released on bail pending further inquiries.

They will face further questioning on May 18.
