RESIDENT’S views on recycling, the use of reusable recycling bags and litter are to be canvassed by Monmouthshire County Council.

The council recently agreed to reduce its use of avoidable single-use plastics, and as part of its drive it is considering the option of reusable bags for recycling.

Monmouthshire claims that their household waste recycling centres are among the most accessible in the region but that maintaining them means a considerable rise in running costs at a time of continued budget pressures.

The council add they are tackling the litter problem problem with the help of volunteers in the community and are seeking residents’ views on what is most important to them in the campaign to reduce litter.

The questionnaire can be accessed by logging onto https://bit.ly/2OT8ZB1 or calling into one of the council’s local community hubs. The deadline for submitting views is 9am on Thursday 30th August.

Councillor Bryan Jones, cabinet member with responsibility for waste and recycling said, ‘I urge residents to give their views to help us improve our recycling service.’

Meanwhile, the council has agreed that each household will receive a new recycling box for glass and it has purchased new vehicles with three separate compartments for red and purple bags as well as food waste. For most households, this will mean recycling and food waste collection on the same day.
