A grateful visitor to Abergavenny is trying to find the good Samaritan who returned his wallet after he dropped it whilst visiting the town.

Adrian Jones, 84, made his weekly visit to Abergavenny last Tuesday, bringing along his seven-year-old great grandson, Oliver.

On the way back to his car, Mr Jones was stopped by a man who handed over his wallet, with over £300 inside, back to him. He had no idea he’d even lost it.

“He came running up behind me. I was a bit startled at first, wondering ‘who’s this fella?’. He then handed over my wallet, as he caught his own breath.

“The man must have ran from the chip shop in the centre of town, along the High Street, to catch up with me around the corner.

“I was a bit shaken up, to be honest. I must have been, as I didn’t think to reward him,” said Mr Jones.

The good Samaritan is described as mid-forties, white, about 5ft 9in and of medium build.

Mr Jones said he was particularly happy as the good deed was witnessed by his great grandson.

“Perhaps Oliver will learn something from that - that if he ever found something on the street, the best thing to do would be to hand it in to the owner,” he said.

Mr Jones is now keen to trace the man involved in order to thank him properly.
