COUNCIL chiefs are deciding where in the county to allocate land to be used by travellers.
Last week Cabinet members debated findings from consultants on certain areas in Monmouthshire.
Cabinet member, Councillor Bob Greenland said, "It's clear that it's prudent to do so if there's an identified need, and there is in Monmouthshire by evidence of illegal encampments."
Councillor Greenland told Cabinet members that a team of consultants looked at sites across the county and have ear marked a site in Rogiet.
He said, "This site is the most suitable in the county. It's close to amenities and there's good access. There are grants available for this and I am satisfied we would expect to make an application."
Cabinet members were told that there were problems with travellers in sites all across the county such as Castle Meadows in Abergavenny and the lay-by in between Abergavenny and Hereford.
Councillor Phil Hobson said, "One thing that seems to be coming through to me is that I don't see anything from anyone in the travelling or gypsy community who have been asked about what site they want to use.
A report in to the findings is available on Monmouthshire County Council's website.
