Drivers approaching Llangattock will be met with a new 40mph speed sign in a bid to encourage them to slow down before reaching the 30mph limit through the village.

The new limits were installed by Powys County Council Highways authority after Llangattock Community Council (LCC) dipped into its reserves to part-fund them.

The 40mph ‘buffer’ zone is there as traffic enters the main 30mph through the village from the Llangynidr hillside road.

There is another buffer as traffic enters the Legar and a new 30mph limit at The Dardy (which was previously National speed limit).

However the community council would have liked to see more lower limits introduced on local roads and is to continue its campaign to get more installed however members hope these new signs would make a difference.

Llangattock County Councillor, Jackie Charlton was also involved and said: “I am delighted to see this happening in a partnership between the innovative approach offered by the County Council through negotiation with myself and Llangattock Community Council.

‘‘The Community Council decided to accept the challenge of raising funds to support the payment of three Road Traffic Orders for the price of one.

‘‘Powys County Council has only been able to fund Road Traffic Orders in emergencies or for major road improvements leaving local communities bereft of any support for changing speed limits.

‘‘This will make the entry into Llangattock safer and reduces the speed in three areas around the village.

‘‘It’s brilliant to see how working together can provide the changes needed and improve on safety.”
