Do you know anyone who has made an important contribution to science and technology through the medium of Welsh? Are you aware of someone who has inspired others to become a scientist, or have you come across an individual who has been pivotal in the success of a scientific or technology-based project?

If so, why not nominate them for the National Eisteddfod’s Science and Technology Medal? The Medal, presented annually, is a chance to recognise and celebrate an individual’s contribution to science and technology through the medium of Welsh.

It’s also an opportunity to raise the profile and awareness of the excellent work undertaken in Wales, showcasing the work and contribution of individuals who have done so much in promoting STEM subjects across the country, as well as those working in industry.

Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Elfed Roberts, said, “The Science and Technology Medal has been an important honour since 2004, and some of Wales’ most notable scientists have received the medal during this time. It is important that we have an opportunity to recognise those who have been so active in the field, and the Medal is an excellent way to do this.

“The closing date is 31 January, and I very much hope to see lots of scientists of all ages and from all backgrounds nominated for their work promoting science and technology through the medium of Welsh.

“Science and Technology has been an integral part of the National Eisteddfod’s work for over forty years, and the Science and Technology Pavilion has developed hugely over the years.”

The name of the winner of the Medal is announced in April and s/he will be honoured at a special ceremony on the Pavilion stage during Eisteddfod week.

Ydych chi’n ymwybodol o rywun sydd wedi ysbrydoli eraill i fynd i faes gwyddoniaeth, neu a ydych chi wedi clywed am waith unigolyn sydd wedi gwneud prosiect gwyddonol neu dechnegol yn llwyddiant?

Os felly, beth am eu henwebu ar gyfer Medal Wyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol? Mae’r Fedal, a gyflwynir yn flynyddol, yn gyfle i ni gydnabod a dathlu cyfraniad unigolyn i faes gwyddoniaeth a thechnoleg trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg.

Mae hefyd yn gyfle i godi proffil ac ymwybyddiaeth o’r gwaith ardderchog a wneir yn y maes yng Nghymru, gan roi sylw ychwanegol i brosiectau a chyfraniad unigolion sy’n gwneud cymaint dros hyrwyddo pynciau STEM ar hyd a lled y wlad, yn ogystal â’r rheiny sy’n weithgar ym myd diwydiant.

Meddai Elfed Roberts, Prif Weithredwr yr Eisteddfod, “Mae’r Fedal Wyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg wedi bod yn anrhydedd bwysig ers 2004, ac mae rhai o wyddonwyr amlwg Cymru wedi’i derbyn dros y blynyddoedd. Mae’n bwysig ein bod yn cael cyfle i nodi a chydnabod y rheiny sydd mor weithgar yn y maes, ac mae’r Fedal yn gyfle arbennig o dda i wneud hynny.

“31 Ionawr yw’r dyddiad cau ar gyfer y Fedal, ac rwy’n mawr obeithio y byddwn yn llwyddo i ddenu nifer fawr o enwebiadau am wyddonwyr o bob oed mewn pob math o feysydd sy’n gweithio’n ddiflino dros wyddoniaeth a thechnoleg trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg.”

“Mae gwyddoniaeth a thechnoleg wedi bod yn rhan bwysig o waith yr Eisteddfod ers dros ddeugain mlynedd, ac mae’r Pafiliwn Gwyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg wedi datblygu’n syfrdanol dros y blynyddoedd.”

Cyhoeddir enw enillydd y Fedal ym mis Ebrill, ac fe’i h/anrhydeddir mewn seremoni arbennig ar lwyfan y Pafiliwn yn ystod wythnos yr Eisteddfod.
