A VILLAGE hall that was damaged when a car ploughed into it has been rebuilt.

More than £100,000 was raised to rebuild Crawley Hall at Bryngwyn after the building was severely damaged when Range Rover crashed into it nearly three years ago.

Luckily, no one was inside the hall at the time of the crash in October 2008 as the car went straight through the building hitting the stage, destroyed a wall and equipment.

A fundraising committee was set up to raise the money need to build a new village hall.

Several grants were received included £55,000 from Monmouthshire Council Council and money from waste and recycling company Biffa, GAVO, New House Trust and the Big Lottery Fund as well as many donations from people in the parish.

Prisoners from HMP Prescoed also helped with the building of the hall.

Know to locals as the Green Shed, Crawley Hall was officially opened last week by Monmouth MP David Davies, High Sheriff Lady Hayman-Joyce and HMP Prescoed governor Elfed Jones.

Committee secretary Cecilia Davies said, "After a few delays such as waiting for a bat report from the Welsh Assembly the village hall is now open.

"We are extremely grateful to all those who gave us grants and donations which enabled us to build the hall. The main aim now is to get people in there to use it as much as possible."
