Goytre - 7
Corus Steel - 2
CORUS Steel were like putty in Goytre's merciless hands as the Plough Road club bounced back from their disappointing defeat at the hands of AFC Porth to lay waste to the Port Talbot visitors 7-2.
It was very much a brotherly affair as Luke Prosser netted a hat-trick and his brother Matthew also got his name on the score sheet.
The success of the siblings carried the day when Dan and Kristian Wharton, sons of manager Sean, made up the scoring with an additional strike by Chris Watkins.
Goytre now sit fourth in Welsh League Division Three.
Abercarn United - 1
Govilon - 2
GOVILON are still sitting pretty at the top of Gwent County Division One following an outstanding first half that led to their away victory at Abercarn.
Govilon sprung into life early on when Leon Gilchrist's strong run down the right flank saw him cross into the box for Dean Morgan who just failed to connect with an outstretched leg. Gilchrist also went close with a headed effort moments later, but it was Craig Norman who nudged them ahead after 15 minutes when he rose in the box to meet Jamie Laurent's corner to head home with the deftest of touches.
Abercarn slipped further behind and again from a set piece when Michael Davies headed in from a free kick to give Govilon a 2-0 lead going into the interval.
The second half saw Abercarn in a more determined mood and Sam Morris in Govilon's goal saved well ten minutes in, when one on one with an Abercarn striker.
However Morris could do nothing to stop a firm strike finding the corner of his net with twenty five minutes remaining as Abercarn enjoyed their best spell of the game.
Laurent, Morgan and Norman all had efforts fly over the crossbar in the brief spell that followed but Govilon could not put any more goals away.
On Saturday Govilon are home to Chepstow Town (3.00pm) who themselves have made a good start to the season.
Meanwhile in Gwent County Division Two, Mardy sit third from bottom after being beaten 2-4 by RTB Ebbw Vale. Having won one, drawn one, and lost five so far this season, the Mardy will look to turn things around at Tranch next Saturday.
Elsewhere in Division Three the Abergavenny Thursdays were on the receiving end of a 1-5 hiding from Rockfield Rovers. To date the Thursdays have pretty much been on a highway to nothing this season having played eight and lost seven. The Thursdays have another opportunity to notch up another badly-needed win when they face Trinant at Pen-y-Pound this Saturday.
