Two businesses in Abergavenny’s Cross Street, both run by mother and daughter teams, have won titles at the 2015 Welsh National Wedding awards, beating competition from across Wales.

Baroque Boutique was the regional and national award winner in Best Occasion Wear while Hilary’s Floral Design topped the category for Wedding Flowers for the fourth year in a row.

Every year an estimated ten billion pounds is spent in the UK wedding industry, according to a study completed by hitched.co.uk in 2011.

Thousands of small companies work hard to win new business. The competition is fierce, the industry is seasonal and the opportunity for repeat business is minimal.

To help these businesses receive the recognition they deserve, JR Events launched the awards in 2011. The ceremony this year was held at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea.

Baroque Boutique specialises in designer wear for mother of the bride/groom, bridesmaids and wedding guests. Mother and daughter Marion Challenor and Coryn Emma Price, who run and manage the boutique, were delighted to be shortlisted and overjoyed to have won.

“We really love what we do and we’re lucky to work with some amazing people. Our business is going from strength to strength,” said Coryn.

The previous year the pair picked up the award for Best New Wedding Business.

Mother and daughter team Hilary and Charlotte Cooke at Hilary’s Floral Design, were also delighted with their award - having arranged flowers and bouquets for hundreds of brides.

Hilary said, “We were thrilled to bits to win it for a fourth time.”

Charlotte, who’s been working with her mother at the family-run business for more than nine years, said, “It’s voted for by brides from this year so it means a bit more because it’s your customers and clients.”
