WITH one of the largest six form in the area, the head teacher of Brynmawr School said he is very pleased with the outstanding level obtained by pupils who achieved their A-level's last week.
Out of the 101 students who sat 263 exams in 22 subjects, 21 percent gained A grade and 44 percent gained an A or B.
Head teacher, Dr Mike Norton, praised their work and effort, he said, "I am very pleased with the results overall and delighted with some outstanding individual successes.
"I am particularly pleased that those students who joined us from Abertillery and Glyncoed settled in so quickly and achieved some very good results."
Some individual students achieved outstanding results including Chloe Richards and Tom Evans who both gained four A's. Tom is going to Cambridge to read Chemical Engineering which follows two students who went to Oxford University last year and Chloe is going to follow a course in interior design.
Dr Norton said, "Whilst we aim to achieve the academic potential of all students it is really gratifying to see students from this area obtaining places at the very best universities something we aspire to with all students."
Others who achieved particularly notable successes were, Ieuan Henry, three As; Callum Preece, three As; David Robinson, three As; Amber Weeks, three As; Ashleigh Bull, three As one B and Adam Godfrey, three As, one D.
Another notable success was Cerys Price who was among the top ten highest scoring candidates in the country in the health and social care double award exam. This was an exceptional achievement and the school has received a letter of praise from the exam board.
Chair of Brynmawr School Governors, councillor Lyn Elias adds, "Once again Brynmawr School has set the standard for the Borough.
"I am so pleased for all the students and staff for their dedication and hard work. It only shows what can be achieved when high standards are expected."
