BRYNMAWR'S town centre is starting to look 'fairy' brighter thanks to two business women, an artist and some cans of spray paint.
Rhianne Evans and Caren Dilek-Karaosmanoglu from Fairyodd Photography Studio in Brynmawr said they were fed up of the town looking grey and boring.
They said shoppers would comment how on "dowdy" the area looked when it was time for the shops to close - and the grey shutters to go down.
So the photographers, who jointly own their own business, decided to start brightening up Brynmawr.
"No body seems to like the shutters down in Brynmawr, but for safety we have to put them down. The street looks miserable of an evening so we had the idea of brightening up our shutter with some graffiti," said Rhianne.
"We came across Chris Jones from Abergavenny who is a Graffiti artist, but there is limited "legal" areas to use as his canvas. We approached him with the idea to Brighten up Brynmawr and he jumped at the opportunity.
"As we are a creative and modern photography studio, we like to keep our work exciting and our customers guessing. Because we have broken away from traditional photography and keep our work moving with the times, we thought graffiti would be a suitable way of expressing our creativity in someone else's art. Together we chose a design that would not only show our Fairyodd logo, but a Fairy which has always been a great icon for our business!"
On Sunday Chirs got busy and completed re-vamped the outside of their studio, which has been running well in Brynmawr for five years.
"As Chris was working a local past by and said "Good job that is, Brynmawr needs a bit of brightening up".
"With the bigger stores opening close by, Brynmawr has been over looked, but this quaint little town has such great potential to attract people to help local businesses remain open," added Rhianne.
The businesswomen are now hoping that other traders will follow suit.
"I'm hoping this will inspire the town and other shop owners to do a similar thing. I'm hoping it will attract more attention and bring back a bit of interest in us folk up the valleys!
"We are hoping this will catch on throughout the area, Chris is very willing to create pieces to suit the other businesses. They can contact him on 07875556136."
Fairyodd will have a different design on it's shutters frequently - so keep your eyes peeled.
