Blaenavon Blues - 0
Abertillery Excelsiors - 1
BLAENAVON Blues again failed to convert any of the numerous chances that they created last Saturday and in turn conceded a soft goal to gift Abertillery Excelsior's three valuable league points.
The Blues dominated the opening thirty-five minutes attacking the Abertillery goal at will but in the last third of the pitch the Blues struggled to find the killer instinct, and at times looked slow and laboured in and around the box.
Abertillery had their best spell of the game in the ten minutes leading up to half time, and it was in that time that they took the lead.
An Abertillery corner was not dealt with by the Blues defence as two Blues players left the ball for each other and the ball bounced off the last Abertillery attacker and into the back of the net.
Abertillery had a bit more possession second half but the Blues still looked the better side, but were unable to break down the Abertillery defence.
The closest the Blues came to scoring was when central defender Matthew Cox had two headers really well saved by the Abertillery keeper on consecutive corners.
The Blues battled hard on a bitterly cold and at times really foggy afternoon, but had nothing to show for their endeavours.
A closer look at the league table sees the Blues have only scored 18 league goals all season, and only the bottom two clubs Mardy and RTB Ebbw Vale have scored less. This is something that the Blues need to sort out very soon.
This week the Blues face the daunting task of visiting league leaders and the only unbeaten side left in the Gwent County - Albion Rovers. kick-off is 2pm at Kimberly Park, Malpas.
Fellow Division One outfit Mardy are still yet to record a win this season, but they came close on Saturday with a 2-3 loss at the hands of Treowen Stars.
