ABERGAVENNY first XI have secured promotion back into the Premier League after the weather and other results went their way on Saturday.
In their final home league game of the season, Aber entertained Rogerstone, and the match started very well for the Beavers who were invited to bat first on a damp, overcast day.
After overcoming a slow start against some excellent new ball bowling from John Berry, Aber asserted their dominance on the game with a huge 181 run partnership between run machines Andrew Robinson (153) and Marc Evans (81).
Robinson has now scored an incredible 848 runs in 10 games with an average of 141.33.
The Abergavenny innings closed on an imposing 287-5, and in reply Rogerstone made a slow start against the Beavers seamers Nathan Byrne and Jon Denning who each picked up a wicket. Rogerstone's middle order batsmen Ali and Asif were attempting to rescue the innings when the heavens opened and the game could not be completed with Rogerstone on 96-2 from 23 overs.
This result, together with Blackwood beating Chepstow ensures that the Beavers can no longer be caught at the summit of Division One.
The Beavers now travel to Chepstow for their final game of the season knowing that the outcome of the game will have a direct result on who joins them in the Premier league next year.
A spokesperson for the club said, "Abergavenny hope to enjoy similar success and better weather next season."
