Filming for a new BBC 1 series presented by Paul Martin of Flog It will focus on Highfield Crescent in Abergavenny this Sunday afternoon (May 29, 1.30pm to 5pm).

The 15-part series called Street Auction, due to be broadcast in September, will feature a variety of locations across the UK, bringing together a street and a community for a massive fund-raising effort.

Last month neighbours in the Highfield Crescent area were asked to donate unwanted and unloved items which will now be sold at a ‘pop up’ auction, hosted by Paul, right in the heart of their community.

The auction in turn forms part of a street party with stalls of donated items including cakes, bric-a-brac, books and plants, along with other fund-raising initiatives and entertainment.

The stalls will all add to the money being raised for local good causes and, at the end of the event, the grand total will be announced.

“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Paul Martin. “We met some fantastic people on our rummaging day and it makes you realise how keen people are to help in a community effort.

“It also makes you realise how all of us have things we are willing to part with! We’ve found some great things in sheds and attics.

“The wonderful people in Abergavenny have donated some fantastic items – everything from goal posts to horror posters, to name but a few!”

“We hope lots of people will come along on the day – and bring something to sell for the fund!”
