A TWO month operation targeting anti-social behaviour in Bailey Park is being carried out by Abergavenny police officers.
Calls by residents and and visitors about noise and shouting during the evening, swearing and underage drinking have increased.
The operation which started last Friday, April 15 will run during every weekend in April and May. Officers will patrol both in uniform and in plain clothes at various times of the day and night and will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour from members of the public of any age.
On the first day of the operation, three cases of lager were seized from youths. Nearby shops will also be targeted to crack down on purchases of alcohol for underage drinkers.
Offenders can expect to receive a fine of up to £2500 or even face arrest if they are found behaving in a disorderly way.
Abergavenny Neighbourhood Sergeant Tony Patey said, "We will not allow the behaviour of a minority of individuals to spoil the enjoyment of Bailey Park for the general public and local residents.
"People of any age are welcome to use the park and play area as long as they behave in a responsible manner. Anyone drinking alcohol underage or behaving in an anti social manner can expect to be dealt with robustly."
