A PERSON employed to 'litter pick' the wards in Abergavenny could be an answer to the rubbish problems, said members of Abergavenny Town Council.

At their last meeting councillor James George approached them with the idea. He said, "I think it would benefit the council tax payers if we had an additional litter picker. If approved I would like this extra person to dedicate their time to the Town Council wards."

Councillor Jane Foulser said, "I would certainly agree. The town is in a state most mornings when I walk through it's a joy to behold - I don't think."

Councillor Roger Harris said, "If we supply bins they are not necessarily used and the mess creates a bad impression. I support the idea that we have a big clean up."

Councillor George added, "Say they would work about 20 hours a week and get £8,000 a year? If it's done on a regular basis it will keep the town clean. I understand it's a lot of money for the Town Council to give but when I ask residents what they want to see done they always say they want rid of the litter and dog mess." Councillor Marion Pearse said the Grofield ward was "filthy" at times. Members agreed to discuss the idea further.
