On Friday, March 24, nine intrepid members of staff from Aneurin Leisure are planning a mammoth 30 mile run across Blaenau Gwent to raise money for Comic Relief.

The gruelling route starts at Aneurin Leisure’s central base at the Regain Building on the Works Site in Ebbw Vale and travels to Abertillery, Brynmawr and Tredegar before returning again to Ebbw Vale, where the 30 mile circuit will finish at the Sports Centre.

The team of runners are; David Williams aged 30 from Blaina, Tom Kivell aged 27 from Beaufort, Ashley Owen aged 50 from Tredegar, Danielle Phillips aged 32 from Brynmawr, Martin Thomas aged 28 from Ebbw Vale, Gareth Winmill aged 26 from Abertillery, Hannah Winmill aged 22 from Abertillery, Matthew Chard aged 37 from Ebbw Vale and Gethin Rose aged 44 from Ebbw Vale.

The team will be stopping off at a selection of Aneurin Leisure venues along the route to promote their fundraising challenge, chat to supporters and get some much needed refreshments.

Tom Kivell, one of the organisers of the challenge said; “David Williams and I have both done endurance fitness challenges to raise money for charities in the past; David has cycled 150 miles for Sport Relief and I’ve cycled 130 miles for Children in Need, so this year we thought we would make it more of a challenge by putting on our running shoes and embarking on a 30 mile run around Blaenau Gwent to raise money for Comic Relief.

The support so far has been fantastic from everyone; we already have a number of other staff members that have pledged to join us, as well as some of our life members from the Sports Centres, so it’s going to be an amazing joint effort.”

If you’d like to show your support for the team you can make a donation to their Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/ANEURINLEISURE? or even come along to one of our venues and cheer them on!
