FOLK?band Allan Yn Y Fan – often referred to as Wales' leading Celtic music band of the 21st Century - is to be among the performers at the Borough Theatre's traditional celebration of all things Welsh on St David's Day - Tuesday,?March 1 at 7.30pm.

Promoted by ACTing4theBorough the concert will also feature local performers including a group of young musicians from Abergavenny's Welsh medium school Ysgol Gymraeg y Fenni.

"In the past we've usually had a male voice choir at the St David's Day concert but for this year we've decided to give it a slightly new look and make the evening a celebration of all things Welsh," said A4B chairman Liz Davies.

"We hope that the blend of Allan Yn Y Fan's lively folk and the young performers will blend with the more traditional Welsh fare to provide a really enjoyable evening for all the family," she added.

Making its third appearance at the Borough Theatre, Allan Yn Y?Fan is well known for its connection to the audience and a typical concert takes the listener on a musical tour of Wales – a journey that encompasses beautiful, delicate airs and sad songs through to full blooded jigs, reels and polkas and this concert will feature selections from the band's previous recorded work plus some sneak previews of new material destined for the band's fourth album planned for 2012.

Also appearing on stage during the concert will be a group of performers from Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni - the town's Welsh medium primary school.

As well as singing a selection of traditional Welsh songs, the talented youngsters will be staging a specially choreographed dance number, which blends traditional folk dances with more modern Welsh pop music.

Completing the line up for the packed show will be Abergavenny based singing group Accord, which draws its members from Abergavenny, Monmouth and the surrounding area.

The mixed ensemble will be performing a wide selection of popular music from We'll Keep a Welcome in the Hillside to The Rhythm of Life.

The concert takes place on Tuesday, March 1 at 7.30pm and tickets for the Borough Theatre's St David's Day celebration are available now from the theatre box office on 01873 850805.
