THE young and upcoming athletes from the Y Fenni Gymnastics Club put in an outstanding performance at the recent Welsh Preliminary Championships held at Cardiff's Welsh Institute of Sports.

Competing against clubs from across South and West Wales, the Phase One Under 11 Girls Team included Ellen Johns, Ella Price, Carys Lane and Millie West Jones (Pictured Above).

The girls were required to complete two tumble runs and two vaults each in their bid for the individual and team championships.

The level of their performance was outstanding throughout and news that Ella Price had scored 9.4 for the first of her vaults caused excitement for the coaching team and parents alike.

However, no one was prepared for the announcement that Ella had won first place in the individual championship, scoring a massive 36.1 out of a possible 40.

Yet that was not all, the hard work and determination the girls had shown during weeks of preparation came to fruition when it was announced that they had also clinched second place in the team championship, finishing just behind Carmarthen.

The girls will now go on to compete in Phase Two of the competition next year.

Those of you who would like to see the girls in action will be able to see them perform at the Abergavenny Carnival later this year.
