Rockers and revellers in Abergavenny are rocking out to raise thousands in aid of those affected by cancer.
The fourth ‘Kamfest’ brings together some of Abergavenny’s music scene for a festival in aid of Macmillan’s tireless work for people and families hit by the life-defining disease.
The Nevill Hall Social Club will host three bands from 6pm on April 30, with aims to raise over the £1,500 drummed up for charity last year.
Organiser Robert Antell said the festival has grown larger, and raised more cash, every year since its inaugural event in 2012.
“The response has been fantastic; the festival just continues to get bigger and better with every passing year.
“Since day one the good people of Abergavenny and surrounding areas have really stepped up and put their hands in their collective pockets.
“I think last year we raised almost £1,500 for the Kidney Association. Before that, it was £1,200 for LATCH. The first year got around £1,000 for the Baby Care Unit at Nevill Hall Hospital.
“We could sell out two or three times over. Demand is that high!”
Three bands with very different takes from the canon of rock will be performing on the night.
‘Just for Kicks’ play anything from ABBA to Status Quo, whilst ‘Kill 66’ pay homage to the new wave of British Heavy Metal.
Rounding off the show will be Rob’s own ‘Kamikaze Millionaires’, a cult hard-rock covers band vaunted amongst the local music scene.
Rob, in the truest sense of a musician, says the festival is purely about the music, and its draw to other people.
“It’s all for the sake of having a great time and raising money for worthy causes be it £10 or £10,000.
“It is a totally non-profit exercise. All the bands and staff are giving their time for free. You really have to take your hat off.
“I’m sure I speak for everyone involved when I say it’s not only a chance for bands to come together and showcase great music. No egos, no pretence.
“We’d like to personally thank Kath Jenkins at Nevill Hall. Her contribution is huge. She’s quite the impresario, you know!”
Local businesses have chipped in with prizes for festival goers. Last year, organisers gave away a HD projector worth over £1,000. This event offers the chance to win the latest smart cameras, top restaurant tickets, signed rugby jerseys and festival tickets.
Tickets and band information is available at kamikazemillionaires.co.uk or I Pixel Designs, Abergavenny. A limited amount are available on the door.
