ABERGAVENNY RFC has once again missed out on victory by a single score as they entertained Mountain Ash at Bailey Park.Aber were ahead for most of the match and looked like they were about to record their first win of the campaign until Mountain Ash scored a converted try with the last play of the game."It's another game we have lost that we should have won," said coach Gary Lawrence after the match."We played the much better rugby than Mountain Ash and and if we played as well as we did in the middle part of the match we would have won by a massive margin."As it was errors in the game cost us - not necessarily handling errors and things like that but our tactical decision making was not good enough at times."It was because of that we were only leading 22-18 with the final whistle approaching when they scored with the last play of the game."They had a lineout and from the maul scored from five yards out and after they had converted it the whistle went - it was just gutting that was the last play of the game."We played some really good rugby at times and all our tries were outstanding."The first try came from Kevin Maddock after some wonderful build up play between our fly half and centres."Steve Lang then added two more points with the boot."The second try came after several phases of play with Tom Reece touching down."Dan Hayward got the third try with Steve Lang kicking the conversion and also a penalty."Our man of the match was Paul Connor but the whole of the back row were outstanding."We were also glad to welcome back from retirement James Williams who played 30 minutes for us."We are playing Treherbert next week and although they are bottom they've only played two games."I've been astonished by some of the results this season in Division 2 East already."I expected Fleur De Lys to be at the top but they lost heavily in their opening match. "It's early doors at the moment and I think we have a great opportunity to get that win next week."It will build up the confidence and we're playing a lot better than we did two years ago - it's a different squad this time."Abergavenny are away to Treherbert on Saturday, September 27.
