An Abergavenny consultant psychologist and her husband, Peter have raised £10,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre and are now back on the fundraising trail, planning to raise at least £2,000 more by trekking Machu Piccu.
Dr Alison White, whose practise is based in Monk Street, is heading high into the Andes in September in the company of such notables as Rhod Gilbert, Shane Williams and Derek Brockway.
Alison stated, ‘Everybody Peter and I know has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Between us we have been privileged enough to know a number of souls taken far too soon as well as battle-hardened survivors.
‘It saddens me when I hear stories from my friends, family and patients about how cancer has impacted on them or their loved ones. It is a cruel disease which takes no prisoners.’
Velindre provides specialist cancer services to 1.5 million people in South East Wales and beyond. They are one of the largest cancer centres in the UK and the Velindre is the largest non-surgical cancer hospital in Wales providing radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments for over half the people of Wales.
