ABERGAVENNY Tennis Club's junior teams were in fine form the opening weekend of the 2011 Aegon Team Tennis season.
Team Tennis is an LTA-run tennis tournament for clubs across the UK, and for the second year in a row Abergavenny has been placed in the top South Wales division in most age-groups.
The U12 'A' team of Herbie McKenna-Morgan, James Morris, Dan Taylor and Jack Grayer kicked off proceedings with an impressive 5-1 victory over Swansea, marking the progress ATC has made against a team it would have been happy to simply be placed in the top division with in previous years.
The U16 Girls team of Mair Floyd-Bosley and Lucy Jones faced a tough battle against County players as they played Esporta Glamorgan at home and despite a 3-0 defeat, will take encouragement from their performance against the likely league winners.
The U10 team of Oliver Stansfield, Elliot Simmonds, Hollis McGlynn and Bethany Jones travelled to the Cwmbran dome for their opening match were they secured a 5-1 victory, as did the U14 'A' team of Gareth Rees, Tom Davies, Fraser Wallace and Callum Simmonds.
The U14 'B' team of James Morris and Dan Jones were at home to Rhiwbina and cruised to a 3-0 victory to finish what had been a superb start to the season for ATC.
