ABERGAVENNY RFC's long-standing chairman Mike Aylett received a lifetime achievement award from the WRU last week in recognition of 32 years of continuous and unbroken service to the club.
Aylett, who had been awarded an Abergavenny Community Award only a few days earlier, was recognised for his contributions to a club that has become a bedrock of the community, at Abergavenny RFC's Annual Awards night held at the Angel Hotel last Friday.
Other people present who were also honoured with awards are as follows;
The Captains Award went to First Team Captain Gareth Williams presented by Vice Chairman of the WRU Ken Hewitt.
The Quins Captain Award was presented to Ian 'Reggie' Davies by Guest Speaker and WRU Community Development Officer Joe Lydon.
The Quins Player of the Year award was presented to Ed Davies by Club President Mr Alun Griffiths O.B.E.
The Most Improved Player of the season was won by Gareth Holley who unfortunately could not be present, but was received on his behalf by club captain Gareth Williams.
The Club Player of the Year award was presented to Stuart Davies by Mr Joe Lydon.
The Bill MacPherson Cup for Outstanding Endeavour was awarded to Mini Section Secretary Andrew Salter and presented by Mr Ken Hewitt.
The Supporters Player of the Year Award was presented to Paul Cornock by Mr Alun Griffiths O.B.E.
The Clubman of the Year award was presented by Joe Lydon to former club captain Howard Davies, who is now using his experience to coach Abergavenny's youth team.
Finally, Chairman Mike Aylett announced that that concluded this year's awards. However the Vice Chairman of the WRU Ken Hewitt had a surprise to spring, and the rest you already know....
