IT's been a long time coming, but last month Mardy Tiger footballer Amy Thrupp realised her dream of playing for Wales.

17-year-old Thrupp was part of the Wales U19's squad who played two friendly internationals against Belgium.

On the strength of her performances Thrupp was selected to travel to Iceland for Wales's three UEFA qualifiers - two of which Wales won to secure a place in the elite group stage which will be played next spring.

Mardy Tigers coach Wayne Jeremiah has long sung the praises of his star striker who has scored over 400 goals for her club and has been a huge part of their league and cup victories.

Jeremiah explained, "Having missed out at being selected to represent Wales at U16 and U17 level I feared Amy might not get the chance she deserved, but her dedication to her sport and club has seen Amy fulfill her dream.

"Her skill and attitude is an inspiration to all the younger Tigers coming through the ranks at what has become the largest female only football club in the country."

Amy has now followed her coach into the senior ranks at PILCS Ladies FC in Pontypool where she continues to knock in the goals.

Jeremiah added, "Everyone at both Mardy Tigers and PILCS Ladies are very proud of Amy, and who knows, maybe she can go one step further and win a full international cap one day."
