BLAENAVON Blues new manager Neil Reed has wasted no time settling in and has already signed five new players to the club in a bid make the 2009/10 campaign one to relish.

Darren Pugh, a former Tranch player and 31-year-old veteran of both Gwent County and Welsh League football will be taking up a player/coach role within the club.

22-year-old Lee Challenger returns to the club after a season at Welsh league division two's Cwmbran Celtic and remains an accomplished footballer who can play at right full back or centre of midfield.

Goalkeeper Ben Smith, who was part of the U18 Cwmffrwdoer side that won the league and cup a few seasons ago, has also signed for the club.

Reed has more recently signed prolific goal scoring youngster Dwain Hunt from Trevethin AFC and 21-year-old Richard Wakeling from Pontypool Town.

Wakeling scored 47 goals last season for Pontypool Town in the Gwent Central Premier division, and also has previous experience of Gwent County football with Tranch AFC.

Hunt, who has been targeted by Blues rivals Goytre and Govilon, also had a remarkable season in the Gwent Central Premier division, netting an outstanding 101 goals in all competitions.

The Blues management believe that with Wakeling and Hunt receiving assistance and support from experienced squad members, they can become a force to be reckoned with.
