A MOTORCYCLIST is belived to have been killed when his machine was involved in an accident with a van on the B4598 Old Raglan Road on Tuesday according to an as yet unconfirmed report.

The accident resulted in the road being closed for several hours as investigators combed the scene attempting to piece together a cause for the event.

A local motorist who arrived at the scene just seconds after the collision describes witnessing the rider lying in the road while another motorist was frantically dialling 999.

Mr Michael Davies, who lives close to the crash site near to the Steel Horse Cafe in LLanvihangel Gobion told the Chronicle. ‘I also called 999 and gave as much detail as I could. The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive and then it arrived at the same time as four police cars and a helicopter.’

A Gwent Police spokesperson confirmed the involvement of a motorcyclist in the incident but stated no further details will be released until family have been notified.
