Line rescue and boat teams from Ebbw Vale and Malpas worked to rescue a woman from the fast flowing River Usk at Merthyr Road, Llanfoist in the early hours of Saturday morning. Teams were spread along a stretch of the river before a fire fighter was able to pull to woman to safety. She was said to be conscious and breathing when she was taken from the water, although believed to have been suffering from hypothermia and shock. p>Fire crews from Abergavenny, Blaenavon, Ebbw Vale and Malpas were called to the water at Llanfoist Bridge, Abergavenny, at about 3.30am on Saturday.
The casualty was found clinging to a tree about 1,640ft (500m) downstream from the bridge in "extremely dangerous" water conditions.
They were pulled from the river and checked by ambulance crews.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service warned people to be aware of the dangers of rivers, especially after heavy rainfall.
