THE air ambulance and ’a lot of police resources’ are on the scene of a serious accident at Raglan which has closed the A449 at between Monmouth and Abergavenny.

The incident is understood to have occurred close to the Raglan services.

An air ambulance spokesman said that an ambulance and rapid response unit had been at the scene and had treated a casualty who had been air lifted to Bristol Royal Infirmary.

No details were available about the number of vehicles involved in the incident or the number of casualties.

The incident happened at around 11.30am and traffic is currently being diverted. It is thought the road will remain closed until at least mid afternoon and Gwent Police has thanked motorists for their patience.
