Abergavenny branch of NatWest recently teamed up with local trading standards officers and police community safety officers to give the public some timely tips on how to avoid scams.
The event, hosted at NatWest, attracted more than 200 customers and members of the public.
“There was a great buzz in the branch and the event was a huge success,” said deputy branch manager Kelly Baird. “Using our combined knowledge we talked to people about various scams that are going on in the area at the moment, how to spot and avoid a scammer and how to cope and where to find help if you’re unfortunate enough to become a victim.
“The kind of concerns customers raised included cold callers, bogus door-to-door knockers, online scams, mail scams and plastic card fraud. Hopefully everyone went away feeling confident they could contact Trading Standards, the police or bank staff at any time about one of these issues.”
Kate Banks, local CEO said, “At NatWest we are committed to helping our customers and our communities protect themselves from fraud and the fear of fraud. Fraud can affect anyone whatever your background, age or experience and attempts can come in all shapes and sizes – over the phone, on the internet or face to face.
“We believe that prevention through education is key so we were delighted to work with local trading standards and the police to offer this drop-in event at Abergavenny.”
