The Heads of the Valleys Road was partially blocked on Friday evening as commuters making their journeys home for the weekend faced significant delays.

A vehicle fire was first reported in the Gilwern area after 6pm on Friday September 4. It was later confirmed that a Mini had gone up in flames on the A465 between the village’s two junctions with the dual carriageway.

Drivers on the westbound side faced delays due to the incident and emergency services swiftly responded. According to the body responsible for monitoring traffic in Wales, Traffic Wales, the disruption began closer 6.30pm.

The route remained open and passable with care throughout, but drivers have were urged to leave extra time for their journeys if using the route.
