Scam callers have been ringing some Powys residents and advising them that they have a credit on their council tax.

The person being contacted is then asked to confirm their name and address, and is told they will get another call from a bank to arrange a refund to their nominated account.

These calls are not being made by Powys County Council staff.

If anyone needs to check if such a call is genuine, they should contact Powys County Council:

If you receive a cold call:

* Don’t let on that you live alone
