Scam callers have been ringing some Powys residents and advising them that they have a credit on their council tax.

The person being contacted is then asked to confirm their name and address, and is told they will get another call from a bank to arrange a refund to their nominated account.

These calls are not being made by Powys County Council staff.

If anyone needs to check if such a call is genuine, they should contact Powys County Council:

Phone: 01597 827463 (office opening hours 9am - 1pm Monday - Friday)

If you receive a cold call:

* Don’t give out any of your personal details

* Don’t give out any of your bank details

* Don’t let on that you live alone

Or call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040, Monday to Friday, 8am – 8pm.
