Abergavenny-based Longtown Mountain Rescue were called into action late in the evening last Tuesday to help a badly injured mountain biker stranded on a Shropshire hillside.

The 31-year-old had crashed 1,600ft up on Corndon Hill, near Bishop’s Castle.

Low cloud meant the Maritime and Coastguard Agency rescue helicopter couldn’t reach him so the mountain rescuers were alerted by the ambulance service.

Neil Rothwell-Hughes, deputy team leader from Longtown MRT said, “The injured man had multiple injuries. He was tended by a team doctor and paramedics. Once stable, we carried him down off the hill to where the helicopter could safely land. It was a long steep carry off with safety rope belays.

“We’ve heard from him since to say he’s still undergoing treatment and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

The team was back home just in time for breakfast.
