Crickhowell RFC - 58

Tongwynalis RFC - 0

TONGWYNLAIS took an awful mauling at the hands of Crickhowell in this first home fixture of 2013 and shipped ten tries in the process.

Had Crickhowell goal kicker Adam Howells been available, penalties and conversions would not have gone begging and the final point tally would have been a whole lot more.

As it was, just four of the tries were converted courtesy of Alan Taylor (2),Joe Powell (1) and Ioan Lilley (1).

The all round display showed strength from every department, with the pack dominant at scrum and lineout, the Tongwynlais eight virtually folded under the barrage.

The rolling mauls set up by the home forwards was a feature of the game. Well directed by scrum half Matt Griffiths it provided excellent possession for the three quarters who engineered three tries for Joe Powell, one for fullback Andrew Reynolds, who had launched himself into the line from fullback, and one for Griffiths who scored off the back of a maul from close range.

The Crickhowell forwards also got in on the act. They were awarded a penalty try when Tongwynlais illegally pulled dow a rolling maul, and both Matt Price and James Webb scored two tries apiece.

This was an excellent win for the home side who now move up to third position in the league, and with the other three sides in the top four all due to visit Parc Broyd it makes for an exciting time. This Saturday Crickhowell visit Aberbargoed.
