Abergavenny RFC - 23
RTB Ebbw Vale - 0
ABERGAVENNY’S unbeaten run extended to 11 games on Saturday after they took the scalp of RTB Ebbw Vale at Bailey Park to the tune of 23-0.
Once again the Clarets had a settled look about them. The front row of Williams James and Matt Charles, were joined by Josh van Mael and Will Evans in the second row, with Dan Beavan, Nathan Thomas, and Rudi Lewis slotting in behind.
Sam Vaughn came in to partner Rhod Webster at half-back. Dan smith and Stuart Davies continued at centre, with Will Williams Jacob Butler and Lloyd Holder forming the back three.
The Aber side started with a bang, dominating both possession and territory, and looking to play attacking rugby at every opportunity.
The pressure eventually led to two well taken penalties by Rhod Webster, 6-0.
Just before half-time, multiple phases between the backs and forwards eventually resulted in Will Williams crossing for a converted try to give Aber a 13-0 half-time lead.
In the second-half Aber rang the changes. Dan Dunmore came on at full back and Dan Horler and Luke Williams took their place in the pack.
A defensive error by RTB was pounced on by scrum half Sam Vaughn to increase Aber’s lead, 18-0.
Jamie Knight and Joe Symonds came on as Aber chased the bonus point, and it was centre Stuart Davies, who had made numerous searing breaks all afternoon, who scored under the posts to stretch the lead to 23 points.
As the game drew to a close the home side thought they had secured the bonus point but the referee somewhat controversially decided otherwise, and ruled the try a knock on.
With seven games left to play the Bailey park outfit have it all to play for with a top three finish a distinct possibility. The club will travel to Blackwood a week Saturday and all support will be greatly appreciated.
