MONMOUTHSHIRE Ladies Section have enjoyed a mixed bag of results lately.
The Welsh team championship first round was played at Newport golf club against Llanwern. It was a close match with Monmouthshire losing three games to two, and just missing the opportunity to progress to the knock out stage of the competition in Cardigan.
The mixed team playing in the Ping challenge were narrowly beaten when playing St Mellons at Pontnewydd golf club, a notoriously difficult venue.
St Mellons were able to field one couple who had been members of Pontnewydd for years and this swung the balance for their team who ran out winners two matches to one – Chris and Sandra Belcham being the winning pair for Monmouthshire.
The league results are a little disappointing for the first team. After winning promotion to Division Three last season the team has lost the first three matches played so far.
However, team spirit is excellent and there is hope for an upsurge for the rest of the games. The second team are faring better, having won one, halved two and lost three matches.
