ABERGAVENNY'S Maddie Davies competed at the Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships in Edinburgh last weekend and won a bronze for Wales.

Maddie competed alongside olympic team mate, Jade Jones, and put on a sterling performance in the junior female -63kg. She was unfortunate to miss out on a guaranteed silver medal after taking an unexpected head shot in the very last second of the match.

The squad was led by male captain Simon Griffiths from Cowbridge and female captain Danielle Baker from North Wales. Wales took a small team compared to the other home nations but managed to bag four medals.

Jones took gold in the 57kg senior female while Ellie May, Maddie, and Ruth May claimed bronze medals.

Ellie and Ruth May are 17-year-old twins from Llantwit Major Taekwondo, while Abergavenny's Maddie is 15 and from Taekwondo Cymru.

Maddie will now go through an analysis process with Coach Master Porl Stone and put together a new and updated training regime to ensure she is on the right track of achieving her dream of being selected for Great Britain.
